Meagan and I were complaining about new atheist-y types and the wars they wage on facebook and consequently share on Tumblr. We were both perturbed about how they conflate “reason” with “anti-theism” and “tact” with utter douchebaggery.
All the while some guy on the bus was very obviously flustered with us.
I’m an atheist; just saying. It’s not something I yell out to everyone, but it is something I HAVE received bullshit for when I was in high school and earlier in college before I mostly decided to shut the fuck up about it. Why shut up about it? Because being an atheist is just some part of who I am; I don’t feel I am better or worse off without religion. It simply doesn’t factor into my life or my decisions, that’s all.
There are a lot of things that occur within and without the religious community that bother me; mostly, why the fuck no one can get along. We’re all too busy being angry at the top 2% (ie the loudest, most obnoxious and least reasonable percentage) of the opposing side’s population to take a step back and breathe.
I don’t think I agree with the term “new atheism” — can you give me your definition of it? All I can think of is science vs religion when I think “new atheism” which is quite silly. I’ve decided that you simply cannot win with science when talking to someone whose response is “faith” and vice versa.
Also, I’d like to say that I’m not the world’s best debater, so that’s not the point of my reply/reblog to you. I just like the flow of ideas/thoughts/opinions and you seem to like to throw yours out there, haha.
